We Are All So Scared To Speak Out
We are all so scared to speak out It seems like this new blog thing is scaring the crap out of many of my co-workers.
Why is that?
I have a theory. We work in the world of professional communications, speaking to audiences about companies and products each and every day.
But this professional role allows us to live behind the mask of business, leaving our communications impersonal. The blog takes away that mask and asks each and every one of us to speak in our own voice, to reveal little bits of our true selves.
I suppose we live in a world where the mask is expected ... to the point that we are more comfortable not being ourselves. The internet and this new way of connecting and subsequently marketing, when done well, takes that mask away and allows real people to connect in a real way, and that means you need to be yourself in a public realm.
And that can be scary.
