This Is National Volunteer Week
It’s (or This is) National Volunteer Week
Today, a mass of “M” folks celebrated with our Volunteer Centre at the “Time to Give Community Breakfast”.
We saw 10 short films about volunteering, donated by local filmmakers. It was powerful and a tremendous example of community at its best.
A remarkable 70% of Guelph citizens volunteer in some way to help others. It’s Canada’s highest rate of volunteerism - we’re officially Canada’s most caring community.
Here at MacMillan we don’t need to look further than across the hall to see terrific examples of giving. Despite ridiculously overworked staff and busy family lives, our people find time to sit on boards and committees, support their churches, run successful fundraisers, teach fitness classes, support school councils, coach sports, design brochures for charities... it’s impressive when we add it up.
The best kept secret? As employers, we win too. Our great team gets greater, gaining new skills, connections and confidence through their volunteer activities. They’re out there building the MacMillan brand in the best possible way.
Help me celebrate National Volunteer Week by voting for our V.P. Tova Davidson’s entry to win a “voluntourism” trip to Africa. She wants to give a week of her time to help others. I figure the least we can do is vote for her to do it. http://tinyurl.com/yyngstt
